“Mom, I am so hungry”. How many of you have heard this on repeat? Snack requests are inevitable if you have children. They can come day or night and even after you have recently served a meal. Keeping a variety of healthy snacks on hand can keep any mom busy.

Recently I was introduced to a new premium apple variety from Honeybear Brands aptly named Pazazz. Descended from the ever popular Honeycrisp, this apple has a flavor profile that is hard to resist. A blend that is both sweet and tart, each bite is crisp and refreshing. Add its bold ruby red color and I can truly say I have never enjoyed a better tasting apple.
You will always find apples in our fridge because they are often in season, they have a long shelf life and they are an affordable, healthy option to bring on the go or enjoy at home. The saying “an apple a day” is truly valid thanks to the numerous benefits these fruits have. Just look at all those noted in the infographic below.

And while this fruit is often best eaten whole, I recently was looking to switch things up and add some protein to my kid’s after school snack. I cut the apples vertically versus horizontally and removed the centre core area with a small circle cookie cutter. When two of the pieces were put together I essentially made an apple sandwich. See what fillings were most popular below.
APPLES AND PEANUT BUTTER
Really, what doesn’t go well with peanut butter? This combination is delicious and was a crowd pleaser at my house. When first serving, my daughter ate three! Switch it up with any nut butter to make these healthy treats.

APPLES AND CHEESE
When I was younger, my grandfather introduced me to apple pie with a side of cheddar cheese. I thought he was a bit crazy to ruin such a fine dessert. Little did I know he was onto something. Combining the sweet and savoury is genius and was a hit with my kids.

APPLES AND YOGURT
Yogurt was the other filling I used for our homemade apple sandwiches. In this case, a thicker yogurt works best. Looking for a bit more crunch? Top the yogurt with a small amount of granola for the perfect snack.
If you want to get some Pazazz into your life, this fine apple variety is offered at local Thrifty Foods locations. I promise they won’t disappoint.
