As the summer break comes to an end, there was one item on my bucket list that I wanted to check off before the routine of September hits. While we don’t have a huge backyard at our Vancouver rental property, the size and layout bodes well for a movie night. And not surprisingly, when I told the kids that we were going to stay up late and eat popcorn and candy, while watching a movie outside, their minds were blown.
Obviously I don’t just have an projector and screen just laying around. But my new favorite Vancouver Rental Company Roowsi does. I recently came across Roowsi online and I love everything it represents. They offer affordable equipment that you can rent to create meaningful experiences. So whether you need camping gear for the weekend, a fondue set to host a girls night or a carpet cleaning machine to clean up after a big spill, their offering includes it so you don’t have to store or purchase such items yourself. Instead you have access to their equipment for a small fee.
Living in 1,300 sq ft in our beautiful city does not come without sacrifice. We have some storage but not that much. I so appreciate that Roowsi gives me the opportunity to make special moments happen while also reducing waste as a participant in their sharing community. It seems like a no brainer! Even before the movie night, I used their services to rent kids chairs for my son’s birthday party and twin inflatable mattresses when my cousins were in town and needed to stay at our house. I am telling you, their offering is large and still growing.
Back to the movie night, I kept the evening’s menu easy and on theme. Let’s just say it didn’t include any fruit or veggies as usual, but rather hot dogs, chips, popcorn and candy of course, because one night of sweets isn’t going to kill anyone. And would you believe that all the candy I got was only $20? Last minute, I raided the generic candy at my local No Frills, adding M & Ms and Twizzlers. I divided the M & Ms into peanut and regular, placing them in little plastic containers so they were easy to grab. Rootbeer (because it is caffeine free) was also served up to offset the salty popcorn and hotdogs.
For the backyard setup, I rented outdoor chairs and the full movie kit from Roowsi. Funny story, we were very excited to show the kids the classic from our childhood “Honey I Shrunk the Kids”, but after I thought I downloaded it before the event, it didn’t actually fully download. So instead we went with Disney’s “Pete’s Dragon” on Netflix. What a beautiful movie and really, it just gives us another opportunity to setup the screen again and watch the other Disney classic in the future. With our moderate fall temperatures, an outdoor movie night can definitely happen next season too.
Our neighbourhood friends came and joined in on the fun! Since the setup of the screen and projector is probably a two person job, we so appreciated having them there to aid with setup. And it didn’t hurt that one is in IT and got the movie up and running quickly. While it was by no means hard, I am not a technical person. Us adults celebrated with an adult beverage or two once the movie started. It really was a magical evening, making a special memory. I highly suggest it, if you can pull it off.
