Tears of Motherhood: The Good, Bad, and Ugly

I cried when I found out you were going to be part of our family

I cried from the pain of your birth

I cried the first time I held you in my arms

I cried when I had no idea what I was doing

I cried when you just wouldn’t stop crying

I cried when your smile melted my heart

I cried when I thought I was the only mom that didn’t love every moment

I cried when you just wouldn’t sleep or eat

I cried when you took your first steps

I cried when I was beyond tired and just wanted to sleep

I cried when I had feelings of resentment towards you

I cried when you said something so funny and I couldn’t stop laughing

I cried when you kicked me and refused to get dressed

I cried when I went back to work and had to leave you

I cried when I thought I was failing you as a mother

I cried the times you were sick and I couldn’t make it better

I cried trying to wrestle you in the car seat for the hundredth time

I cried when you first told me you loved me

I cried for no reason in particular

I cried when I was making dinner for you and forgot to buy a key ingredient

I cried when I dropped you off at your first day of preschool and Kindergarten

I cried when you graduated from both

I cried when I was pushed to my limits and lost my patience with you

I cried as you performed at your first school concert

I cried when I found out I was pregnant with another baby

I cried when that baby didn’t survive

I cried when you scored your first goal in soccer

I cried when another kid hurt your feelings

I cried when I was overwhelmed by life’s responsibility

I cried when I felt time was going too slow

I cried when I felt time was going too fast

I cried when I thought I just couldn’t take any more

I cried when I realized I was no longer the person I was before you

I cried when I realized I was a stronger, more fulfilled, and loved woman thanks to you
