One of my closest friends from university was getting married last summer, and of course, other than the wedding, I was most excited about planning a fun bachelorette weekend with the other bridesmaids. With a couple stagettes already under our belt—including the typical girls’ night out with a few too many references to the male anatomy—we wanted to keep this one classy and unique.
Our friendship blossomed in the late nineties—the age of some of the most amazing music (in our opinion). Since our nights out together have always involved said music accompanied by dancing, we decided a Beyoncé Bachelorette was the perfect theme.
We rented a townhouse in Whistler (a resort town an hour and half north of Vancouver) and had a group of girls join us for two nights of fun. The weekend included a number of activities paying homage to Queen Bey. We went standup paddling (You know you want to sing along: ”surfboard, surfboard”) and hosted a fashion show where we had our bride don outfits inspired by the style icon herself.
In true Bey fashion, we also had a photo shoot. How perfect was the backdrop we found in the bathroom of the townhouse of all places?! Of course, soon after we came across it, we deemed it the “Beyhive” and made sure all the girls got their photos taken there before heading out on the town.
I had our tank tops custom-made through a shop on Etsy. Let’s just say they were a hit everywhere we went, especially when we made our appearance on the dance floor at the local hotspot.
As the weekend came to an end, we had one more photo opportunity that was a must: How could we not take a couple photos with the caption “I Woke Up Like This”?
Now all we need is another friend to get married so we can get in “Formation” and have a “Lemonade” themed night out! Seriously, how good is the newest Beyoncé album? She continues to slay and keep my friends and I as superfans.
