It is hard to believe we are just weeks away from Christmas. I have a confession to make. I am one of those people that decorate early, like days after Halloween early. I figure it takes a while to get all the decorations out of storage so why not enjoy them for as long as possible? And let me tell you, I don’t get any complaints from the family. Well, maybe my husband, who is still getting used to it.
Year after year, I love to add to my collection and stock up on a few new items for the season. This year, I was beyond pleased when I came across the holiday decor selection at my local Walmart. Not only were the pieces I found affordable, but, many of the items I found from the Arctic Frost collection were on-trend and matched my colour scheme.
Traditionally, Christmas means a lot of reds and greens. For the last couple of years, I have gone an alternative route, with creams/whites, silver and bit of gold to better match the rest of our home decor. This year I continued with this trend with the Walmart Arctic Frost décor collection, including this perfect wreath ($28) that inspired the look I wanted to maintain this holiday season. It included a wonderful mix of flocked greens, pinecones and silver ornaments.
In addition to the fabulous wreath, I bought a few matching ornaments, including sparkly snowflakes, silver deer and iridescent pinecones. They’re all the perfect additions on our flocked skinny white and green tree, which is a great size for our 1,200-square foot living space. And instead of a traditional tree skirt, I searched out the rug aisle and found the perfect faux fur accent piece to go under the tree, along with a couple seasonal pillows.
And while space constraints don’t allow for a fireplace, this year I tried something new to create a faux mantel. I pulled my desk out of our master bedroom and decorated it as if it was a fireplace. I added a seasonal printed poster above and I had fun adding statement pieces to the top, including some decorative trees and delicate deer. It was finished off with some garland and our family stockings. Additionally, I have a buffet I also spruce up for the holidays. Here I placed the most perfect Santa that I had found on my trip to Walmart.
So if you are an early decorator like myself or like to wait until the last week before Santa arrives, hopefully you have found some inspiration in this post.
Now to get started on that Christmas shopping…
